Stitch Red

February 8, 2012

Many of you may already be aware of Stitch RedStitch Red is a national campaign started in the needlearts community to “stick it” to heart disease.  The goal is to raise awareness about heart disease, which is the number one killer of women in the United States.

We had the pleasure of meeting Laura Zander,  the founder of Stitch Red and owner of Jimmy Bean Wools, at Vogue Knitting Live.  Our booth was across from the Stitch Red booth and we had several conversations about this program.  As a woman with an abnormal EKG,  I had been looking for an organization to get involved in and Stitch Red was a perfect fit.

Knit is kicking off our Stitch Red campaign with a sock knit-a-long (KAL) and sock classes. Skacel has partnered with Stitch Red. Schoppelle Wool, known for their Zauberball, has provided Skacel with their Admiral sock yarn (75% wool, 25% nylon) in a specifically dyed color called “Johnny’s Red”.   Come in any day between Tuesday, February 28th, and Saturday, March 3rd, at 1pm to join a new team of knitters in starting the sock pattern. Come back on the same day each week to work on the socks together. We will celebrate the completion of our socks with our first Stitch Red event on Thursday, March 29th.

New to socks? We will also be offering a 3-session sock class. See our calendar for the dates and times.

We will be donating 5% from the sale of “Johnny’s Red” to Foundation for the National Institutes of Heart Health (FNIH), in support of The Heart Truth®.

Each month we will be hosting a Stitch Red event with a guest speaker discussing issues related to women and their health.   Watch our blog posts, website and newsletter for information on these upcoming events.   In addition, check out our Stitch Red section in the store for yarns and products from your favorite companies.  Each one is specially designed for this campaign and 5% of the sale of these yarns will also be donated to Foundation for the National Institutes of Heart Health (FNIH), in support of The Heart Truth®.

In order to make sure that we have enough skeins on hand, we are asking you register for our KAL and classes.
Join us in “sticking it” to heart disease.
