Cephalopod Yarns

March 20, 2013

Last week Knit hosted a trunk show from Cephalopod Yarns.  All Cheryl told me was that they were expecting all the bases that Cephalopod offers, in a variety of colors.  I think that everyone was surprised when eight giant boxes of yarn arrived!  It was really great to see examples of all the beautiful colors that Cephalopod dyes, and everyone found a favorite.

This was the “wall of Bugga”, their super soft and squishy sportweight yarn:

This was about a quarter of the yarn that arrived for the trunk show. Told you it was a lot!

See the skeins underneath? There wasn’t even enough room to hang all the Bugga yarn. It was a lot of yarn!  I fell in love with a colorway called Eurota Purple Wing, and I’m already knitting a pair of mitts with one of my new skeins of Bugga.

Did you know that all the Bugga colorway names are bugs and/or sea creatures, and the Traveler coloway names are all places? Heidi’s favorite colorway, Gallifrey, is the name of a planet from Dr Who.  You can probably guess what the Beastie’s colorways are named after – beasts and creatures.  It can be a little confusing when you’re trying to find your favorite color on two different base yarns, but someone told me that if you look at the colorway number on the labels, they will be the same across all the different yarns.  And it worked!

On Friday afternoon, Sarah from Cephalopod came to Knit for a wine and cheese.  Many customers came out to meet her and picked up some gorgeous yarns for shawls, socks, baby sweaters, and many other projects.  It was fun to hear about everyone’s plans for their new yarn and share ideas! Of course, in addition to talking about yarn and things, conversation around the table ranged from languages and foreign travel, to commiseration over college admissions and children going off to college, and even to a nice chat about dogs.  It was great to see Sarah enjoying our usual warm and friendly table conversations, which is one of my favorite things about Knit :)

Sarah also brought some absolutely gorgeous sample garments with her to help inspire people.  I really liked the blue-green sample of The Clovers shawl.  Of course Cheryl loved the laceweight shawl sample, Aster Nyx, and who could blame her because its an absolutely stunning piece:

At the end of the day Sarah did need take most of the beautiful yarns with her, but Knit is still going to carry a smaller selection of Bugga and Traveler, so if you missed the trunk show you can still stop by and see some of the yarn.
