Precious Purls update
January 2, 2013
It’s been almost a year since we met Nancy, the founder of the Precious Purls program at Winthrop Hospital. Precious Purls gives a handmade a hat and/or blanket to each preemie born at the hospital. During a recent conversation, Nancy told me that over 900 preemies were born each year. That’s a lot of hats and blankets!
Just before the holidays I received a a big package from my sister’s friend Jennie, and inside I found these beautiful hats and blankets for the Precious Purls program.
The ladies at the LIKCG are always very generous in their support of this program, and I left the last meeting with a bag full of goodies for the babies.
We have some basic patterns in the shop to get you started. Stop by the store to pick up tags for your finished work. Any yarn can be used as long as it’s machine washable, so it’s the perfect use for your odd skeins or leftovers from a project. We also have some donated yarn in the shop to help you get started.
Keeping in mind what Nancy told me about 900 preemies born at the hospital each year, we are setting a goal of 75 hats or blankets each month for 2013. Everyone loves a challenge and a prize so here it is. Each month, the person who knit or crochets the most hats and/or blankets that month will win a prize. The prizes will vary month to month. The prize for January is a project bag. Grab your needles and hooks, and
Ready, set, go!!
