Vogue Knitting Fall preview
June 11, 2013
This month’s Knit Night was moved to Tuesday to incorporate a visit from Trisha Malcolm, editor of Vogue Knitting magazine as well as a host of other magazines and books.
People started arriving en masse at Knit around 6pm, which is pretty normal for a knit night. So many people came that we almost ran out of chairs! There were many knit night regulars, some new faces from the knit along events, and then some brand new people as well. It was getting a little cozy around the two tables, which was great, because I made more than a couple of new friends After we all settled in, finished dinner (if we brought ours), and examined each others’ knitting and crocheting, Trisha arrived around 7pm.
Trisha started her presentation with a slideshow preview of the Fall issue of Vogue knitting. I must say, I was very impressed by a lot of gorgeous designs. The first section had a lot of very cute cropped sweaters; Trisha reminded us that as knitters, we are able to decide to turn a cropped sweater into a full-length sweater if we prefer that style. Judging by the audience’s comments, a lot of people seemed to prefer that style There was an entire section of the magazine dedicated to my favorite color, bright emerald green! I loved Trisha’s observation that everyone can wear a dark green, it’s just a question of whether you need a yellow- or blue-leaning green.
After the slideshow, while her computer was still out, Trisha polled the audience for opinions about a selection of cover options for one of the Debbie Bliss magazines. During the vote it seemed that people strongly favored 2 of the 7 options, and people offered ideas about why their favorite was better. I can’t wait to see the finished magazine to discover which option Trisha chooses!
Finally, my favorite part of the evening was when Trisha showed us all the sample garments from the magazine. Some of the pieces looked so different in person! We got to look at the garments up close and even try them on, and of course everyone had their favorites.
It was a great knit night with Trisha Malcolm. Everyone seemed to leave brimming with ideas and plans for their next knitting projects. I can’t wait to see the magazine itself in July so I can get started on our KAL scarf project!
