I am SO glad that I stopped by the store tonight to update the website, because the trunk show from Claudia Handpainted Yarns arrived today. I watched Cheryl and Audrey open the boxes and out came one gorgeous color after the other. My favorite was called collards & grits – it’s a perfect Slytherin colorway of silver and greens.
You can stop by the store starting Friday afternoon to see the yarn for yourself, but please leave a couple of skeins of collard & grits for me!

So here we are 10 days post Hurricane Sandy and 1 day after the Noreaster. The store sustained some flooding from Sandy but we are all cleaned up. We never lost our power and were open for people to come in to charge up and warm up. Then yesterday, with the wind and snow, we lost power. With all the trees down and no power we decided to close on Thursday. We will be open tomorrow and with the warmer weather coming, we hope that things will be better for everyone.
Knit, with the help of our customers, has always been involved in helping others, whether is was collecting for care packages for the troops, knitting hats for preemies, or supporting Stitch Red. So many people so close to us have been affected by Hurricane Sandy. We know that many of you have been without power for days. Others have had damage to their homes. As difficult as things have been for us, there are so many others who have lost everything. We have been contacted by Knitting Fever, a yarn distributor in Amityville, who has started their own hurricane relief efforts. We will be joining their initiative and serving as a collection center for new clothing, which they will distribute to those in need. For more information on their work you can go to their website, www.knittingfever.com. We will also be collecting used clothing which Barbara, one of our customers, will be picking up and bringing to the fire departments in Long Beach, Breezy Point and the Rockaways.
The knit and crochet community has always been a charitable group. We know that we can count on your support again, and we thank you in advance.

Hi guys! I just got off the phone with Cheryl. Knit is open today and tomorrow. The store had some flooding, but someone has already come by to remove the water from the carpets. The lights and heat are on but internet and telephone is out, so trying to call won’t be effective.
Cheryl says that people are welcome to come in to charge up cell phones.
Hope all my friends from the store are okay! Ooh, I should go start a check-in thread on Ravelry…

Here it is late August and I don’t want the summer to end. But now my dilemma is that there are so many new Fall yarns coming into the store that I want to knit with. I love the lace weight yarn from Manos.
I love the cabled tunic from Knitty and I would love to make it in one of the yarns from Rowan. This is the color that I is calling out to me.
So the arrival of these yarns signals the end of my precious summer weekends, but I can look forward to hours of knitting while checking out the new fall line-up on television.
As long as the change in season comes with knitting time, I think I’ll survive.

Have you heard? This summer for the first time we are open on Mondays from noon to 5. Stop by to shop or join us for one of our summer knit-alongs.
From 2:00 to 3:00, there is a crochet-a-long of Harvest Hands. These are fingerless mitts made from fingering yarn.
3:30 to 4:30 Knit-a-long with us on the Road Map Scarf.
Join us any Monday to get started on these projects. The summer is a great time to begin working on your holiday gifts. Audrey had already made the Harvest Hands as a gift and is planning on making another pair.
